“Hope You Understand My Sincerity” Hyeri Sheds Tears Over “Victory” Chart Manipulation Allegations

On September 12th, a cheering screening and special GV for the film "Victory" was held at Megabox COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Director Park Bum-soo, Hyeri, Park Se-wan and Anna Lee, CEO of Annapurna Films, were in attendance.

During the event, Hyeri tearfully shared, "'Victory' had a lot of ups and downs from the start. It’s a movie I’m very proud of. I really hope you understand that sincerity."

Hyeri continued, "Many people have given feedback after watching 'Victory', and I’ve received so much support. I wanted to repay that support, which is why I tried to reach more audiences, promoting the film both inside and outside of theaters. I was grateful for the love shown towards 'Victory', and my biggest desire was to give back."

She further expressed, "'Victory' brought me so many emotions. It's a film that makes me cry in various ways—whether from joy, sadness, frustration or happiness. It truly holds a special place in my heart."

"Victory" began its resurgence on September 10th. Released on August 14th, the movie was ranked 8th as of September 1st, but its sudden rise surprised many.

Hyeri and Park Se-wan have been actively promoting the film online and offline, even responding to social media posts and consistently attending promotional events in the film's fourth week since release.

However, there have been suspicions of "sajaegi" (chart manipulation) surrounding the movie’s sudden popularity. In response, distributor Mindmark released an official statement explaining, "Some corporate and group screenings were scheduled ahead of the Chuseok holiday, leading to an increase in audience numbers during weekdays."

They added, "The sold-out weekday screenings that caused controversy in online communities were confirmed to be corporate and group screenings. Typically, group screenings are not available for general reservation on booking platforms, but the schedule for some screenings was mistakenly opened to the public, causing misunderstandings."

Meanwhile, "Victory" tells the story of “Millennium Girls”, an amateur cheerleading club full of passion, who inspire everyone with their energetic dances and songs.
