HYBE: Never Offered Money, NewJeans’ Activities Halted due to Min Hee-jin
On September 26th, HYBE issued a statement saying, "There are numerous inaccuracies in Min Hee-jin's interview, and we would like to set the record straight."
The company also firmly denied Min Hee-jin's assertion that HYBE had offered her a sum of money to get her to leave the ADOR CEO position, as well as her claim that NewJeans' new album production had been halted due to HYBE's actions.
Earlier today, Min Hee-jin had expressed her concern about the conflict with HYBE, which began with allegations of a management rights takeover, and discussed NewJeans' situation in an interview with The Chosun Ilbo.
Regarding Director Min's claim about a buyout offer, HYBE stated, "HYBE has never proposed a settlement like what Director Min Hee-jin claimed. We find it absurd that such baseless claims are being made in a press interview."
The following is the full text of HYBE's official statement:
In response to the Chosun Ilbo article dated September 26th, we would like to address several inaccuracies in Director Min Hee-jin's interview:
* HYBE never proposed a settlement by telling Director Min, "We’ll give you the money, so take it and leave"
We deny ever making such an offer to Director Min Hee-jin. We find it absurd that such baseless claims are being made in a press interview.
* The audit was conducted based on clear internal and external reports, and a serious police investigation is underway.
Director Min claimed the audit was "incidental emotions" and "illegally based on false facts." However, an audit is not conducted on a whim. It was initiated following multiple internal and external reports. The audit confirmed that Director Min and the deputy CEO had been plotting against the company for an extended period. Numerous instances of bad faith were uncovered, including statements like "No one in HYBE can touch us," "Eventually, we will leave HYBE," and "We can actively utilize the fact that the mothers did not sign contracts with HYBE," as well as meetings with investors. Moreover, Director Min has yet to respond to the company's audit findings. This matter is currently under serious police investigation.
* Director Min was fully guaranteed authority over production and management.
The claim that the promise to guarantee the independence of the "Min Hee-jin Label" was broken is false. As CEO, Director Min was granted more authority over production and management than any other label. She enjoyed greater benefits and support than other labels, without interference, in terms of put options, salary, treatment, activity support, and promotion.
* The claim about a foreign PR agency distributing defamatory materials has been debunked by the columnist himself.
The allegation that a foreign PR agency distributed defamatory materials is untrue. The company stated, "At no point did any agency affiliated with HYBE provide any slanderous or untrue information about Min Hee-jin; to suggest otherwise would be a lie." Additionally, Billboard columnist Jeff Benjamin confirmed that he never received defamatory materials about Director Min.
* Regarding album sales in Japan, facts are being cleverly distorted by mixing shipment and sales criteria.
The claim that "1.02 million copies were sold only in Japan" was a significant distortion of facts. We explained the sales figures using publicly available Oricon chart data. The day after the article was published, the Recording Industry Association of Japan certified Gold (100,000 copies), but this certification is based on "shipment" criteria, not sales.
* The suspension of NewJeans’ fan meeting and album work is due to Director Min's neglect of duty and delay in decision-making, not HYBE's obstruction.
The delay in the surprise fan meeting for Korean fans and album work is not due to Director Min's dismissal as CEO or the deputy CEO's exclusion from work. ADOR was considering Seoul World Cup Stadium as the venue, but it was rejected due to lawn issues. The new director repeatedly attempted to meet with Director Min and communicated via email to discuss alternatives and new albums, but Director Min delayed her responses or suddenly took long vacations, causing disruptions. Many fan-focused activities have been suspended due to Director Min's neglect of duty and delayed decision-making.
* While board agenda items are not subject to negotiation and there is no obligation for prior notice, this particular item was clearly communicated 3 days before the meeting.
Director Min's claim that the resolution to dismiss her as CEO should have been negotiated is absurd. Board resolutions are not subject to negotiation, and there is no obligation for prior notification. Nevertheless, the ADOR board clearly informed Director Min of the agenda three days before the meeting. While it was said that there was no clear and convincing reason for the dismissal, the board provided explanations, in addition to the breakdown of the trust relationship, such as “It is appropriate from a policy standpoint to separate the duties of producing and being the CEO.” This is clearly documented.
Director Min's act of disseminating false information through an interview reveals a serious disqualification as a manager. We hope that she will return to her primary responsibilities and focus on work for artists and fans.
