“JungleBoB” Tops Ratings as Uee’s Seafood Hunt and Lee Seung-yoon’s Bamboo Skills Shine
According to Nielsen Korea, the episode of “JungleBoB” that aired on the 24th recorded a household rating of 3.5% (based on the Seoul metropolitan area) and a 2049 target audience rating of 1.2%, securing the number one spot across all channels for its time slot. This show featured Lee Seung-yoon, Uee (former member of the girl group After School), Kim Kyung-nam (actor) and Ryu Soo-young (actor). Particularly, the scene where "nature man" Lee Seung-yoon skillfully prepared bamboo shoots during the jungle ingredients exploration saw the highest minute-by-minute rating of 4.4%.
In the episode, the “JungleBoB” team of four set out to explore the jungle for ingredients. Uee and Kim Kyung-nam went to the sea to hunt for seafood. Using the local method of spearing, the two successfully caught sea urchins and secured a satisfying amount. However, Uee suffered a minor injury, getting pricked by a sea urchin's spine, and had to return to the boat to receive medical treatment.
Meanwhile, Ryu Soo-young and Lee Seung-yoon explored the jungle with the locals to find ingredients. Lee Seung-yoon, leveraging his experience as a "nature man," easily prepared bamboo shoots, impressing even the locals with his expertise. This scene achieved the highest minute-by-minute viewership rating of 4.4%, making it the "highlight of the episode." They also discovered the local specialty gabi (taro). While tasting the raw stem, Ryu Soo-young experienced discomfort, saying it felt as if something sharp had lodged in his throat. He later went to the village, where locals advised him to eat coconut vinegar mixed with sugar, which alleviated his symptoms within 30 seconds.
On the other hand, Uee met with a doctor to remove the sea urchin spines. However, since the spines were difficult to extract, she opted for an ointment to dissolve them instead of undergoing surgery, hoping to quickly return to the sea. Uee expressed her determination, saying, "I'm not sure why, but I felt a sense of responsibility and really wanted to catch something." She and Kim Kyung-nam then challenged themselves to catch the local delicacy, the Bisugo fish, using a traditional hand-line fishing method. Though they struggled initially, Kim Kyung-nam succeeded in catching one fish, with the help of a local fisherman in removing the hook.
The two handed over their haul of five fish and sea urchins to Ryu Soo-young, who quickly prepared a “Bisugo” braised fish dish. Lee Seung-yoon, using soy sauce brought from Korea, made stir-fried bamboo shoots and even prepared raw bamboo shoots to accompany the braised fish, creating a hearty meal. Kim Kyung-nam, tasting “JungleBoB” for the first time, remarked, “Mixing the braised fish with radish and broth tasted even better than the galchi-jjim (braised cutlassfish) I had in Jeju Island. I was extremely satisfied with my first ‘JungleBoB’ meal.” Uee also praised the meal, adding, “It really made me crave soju,” drawing attention.
